Representing Social Space

The social lens through which we see and interpret the world around us is inescapable and reflects intense selection over evolution for the powerful suite of social brain mechanisms evident in primates.  Elucidating these neurobiological processes have been wrought with challenges – ranging from technical to conceptual - that are only now beginning to be overcome. Here I will present experiments performed with marmoset monkeys that leverage these advances to examine the neural basis of social space representations. I will then describe progress towards the next phase of this work investigating the neural basis of predictive social models, a cognitive faculty integral to effectively navigating the complexities of primate societies.
