Yale Psychology graduate student Erica Busch is first author of a paper published in the journal Nature Neuroscience demonstrating a brain-computer interface that allows people to control a video-game avatar using brain activity alone. The research showed that systems designed around the brain’s natural organization can be learned quickly (often in less than an hour) and more effectively than using conventional approaches. The findings have implications for assistive technologies, mental health treatments, and our broader understanding of how the brain learns.
