Broadly, my research examines how people make sense of a complex world with incomplete knowledge and the inherent tradeoffs of the strategies they use to do so. In particular, I examine the effects of acquiring information from external sources (e.g., the Internet) and other people (e.g., testimony, argumentation). I am interested in how outsourcing knowledge can lead people to fail to realize the gaps in their own knowledge. I look at the ways in which education, meta-memory, and emotional investment might help answer this question.
